May Yu is an emerging New Media artist based in Toronto, Canada. She comes from a background that blends both computer science and fine arts.
Her work explores the human condition through a lens of techno-fanaticism and a nostalgia for a time long past; blurred by our desire for connection and a simplification of our current hyper-mediated world. She enjoys hacking and re-purposing retro technologies and aesthetics along with using code to program interactive experiences both through tangible and digital means. Hoping to break out of contemporary societies desires for optimized user-friendly experiences, she is currently focusing on the practice of rapid prototyping and de-optimized works.
